Is that all the Right's got on Kamala?
Why the fact that she laughs and dated when she was single is somehow a knock in MAGA world
Walter Mondale was a liberal. Mike Dukakis was liberal. Clinton was a draft dodger. Al Gore invented the internet. John Kerry was a fake war hero. Barack Obama was not born in the U.S. Hillary Clinton had committed every offense known to man and then deleted the evidence which was apparently sitting in her email inbox. Joe Biden was either a senile old man or some sort of master criminal.
Before 1984, politics really didn’t engage in the Politics of Delegitimization as much; but the knocks on political candidates were just as trivial and inaccurate as the above.
Cleveland had a child out of wedlock. Eugene Debs was a jailbird. Hoover blankets. Al Smith was controlled by the Pope. Adlai was an egghead. Nixon was a crook. Goldwater was crazy. Ford couldn't walk and chew gum at the same time.
The rise of Reagan in the late Seventies was about two concomitant messages by the Right: conservatism was good and liberalism was evil. The former was merely brand politics messaging; the latter was not not merely simple casting liberalism as a poor set of policy choices but couching liberalism as an anathema to morality.
Outside of 2008 and 2012, it’s hard to find a GOP presidential campaign that did not embrace this concept. Neither Senator John McCain nor then Governor Mitt Romney seemed willing to tell the GOP base, particulary the religious Right, that the election was a biblical battle of some sort. Whether it was a core sense of decency (McCain) or having a Christian faith outside of conventional Protestantism (Romney), neither of these candidates were willing to go for the Samsonian jugular.
While Reagan, Bush Senior, and Dole pushed the anti-abortion, school prayer, Moral Majority talking points; W. and Donald took a much more aggressive course — the promise of not merely policy support but a seat at the table as well.
With all that said, the GOP and its propandists at FoxNews have decided that the fact that Kamala Harris laughs and giggles is a character flaw. That, plus the sin of dating while single.
Just spitballing that those attacks are flailing because J.D. Vance is imploding with faux pas galore.
