Donald Trump’s 2022 Fantasy was to announced his 2024 presidential bid ahead on a “red wave” giving the GOP overwhelming control of the House and Senate. Donald Trump wanted to take political credit for the election results despite the fact that his PAC has spent virtually no money on any Republican candidates.
The GOP House would begin a slew of investigations of the Biden Administarion, the FBI’s investigation of his 2016 campaign, the January 6th investigation (both the House Committee’s and the DOJ’s), Hunter Biden’s laptop, and any other political grudge that Trump wanted.
Trump’s announcement, a full week after very mixed results, sounded a lot like his vitriolic and often deranged Truth Social posts. And without a red wave, the corporate media more or less panned the announcement completely.
In addition post-election, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced his military’s withdraw from the Kherson region of Ukraine, a federal judge in Texas blocked President Biden’s student debt cancellation plan, and Trump’s Mar-a-Lago documents case got set for oral argument on November 22nd. The first two seemed politically timed, as if either had been announced prior to the election, it would have further motivated the Democratic base. The third was just plain bad news for Donald Trump.
From Meidas Touch:
If the 11th Circuit agrees with the Department of Justice, Donald Trump’s fantasy that he could avoid prosecution with political muscle becomes a nightmare.
Why?
The end of Judge Aileen Cannon’s exercise of equitable jurisdiction means the Mar-a-Lago documents case is esconsed back in the District of Columbia, where a grand jury is already empaneled. Should a bill of indictment be reported out (and it’s highly unlikely it won’t), it won’t be just former-President Donald Trump being indicted — it will be 2024 Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump indicted on charges of violating the Espionage Act.
And the new GOP majority in the House looks too thin to effectively counter that for candidate Trump. Plus, the Democratic Senate can easily counter what former-Speaker John Boehner termed the “chaos caucus”.
If such a potential criminal charge were made against any politician Left of Center, the political Right would be screaming “Traitor. Enemy of America. Criminal.” But because it is Donald Trump, the political Right finds itself divided between defending Donald Trump on what will be an unforgiving political meme and wishing Trump would go away (but that is actual fantasy).
