Representative Scott Perry (R-PA) had his cell phone seized by the FBI. Naturally, Perry quickly accused Merrick Garland, the Department of Justice, and the FBI of “Banana republic tactics”1.
Banana Republics are oligarchies that enrich the privileged few. Scott Perry, Donald Trump, and America’s crony-capitalist billionaires have worked tirelessly to make the U.S. one. Read “Cabbages and Kings” by O. Henry, if you don’t believe me.2
A few realist observations.
First, Perry’s rhetoric aside, Banana republics do not politely approach you, hand you a search warrant, and then take your phone. The key element of a banana republic is that you do not walk away unscathed.
Second, the fact that Perry did not attack the warrant itself is a sign that the warrant is good. Perry or his attorneys are free to prove otherwise by showing the warrant.
Third, it’a worth reviewing just who Scott Perry is in the January 6th Insurrection: “Going into Election Day 2020, Meadows had regular contact with dozens of Members of Congress, but none were as close as Jim Jordan (R-OH), Mo Brooks (R-AL), and Scott Perry (R-PA).”3
Fourth, the FBI could have seized any of the key trio of Members’ phones. Except Jordan and Brooks are licensed attorneys and seizing their phones is a bit more problematic.
Fifth, Perry has been implicated in a fake elector scheme and that is the focus of the warrant itself apparantly. If the warrant is good, then Perry’s rants and threats mean nothing.
Sixth, Perry has also been implicated in election meddling and Jeffrey Clark’s DOJ coup.4 Perry is not just a Trump loyalist, he’s inner circle — much like Senor Goodwin is in the Republic of Anchuria.
Seventh, Perry sought a pardon for his part in the January 6th Insurrection.5
That last item is a key here as Representative Scott Perry, who presents himself as a pillar of righteousness and moral rectitude, has a criminal record of sorts.
According to the Hanover (PA) Evening Sun:
“In 2003, Perry was accused by the state Department of Environmental Protection of doctoring discharge monitoring reports. Hydrotech was doing work for the Memphord Estates Sewage Treatment Company, which was charged with illegally dumping sludge on the bank of Stony Run Creek in Monaghan Township.
Perry admitted his participation in doctoring the reports at a Common Pleas Court hearing and was placed in the Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition probationary program for first-time nonviolent offenders. The judge told him that his record could be cleared at the end of 12 months if he committed no further crimes, which court records indicate is what happened.6”
If the contents of Perry’s phone are inculpatory — and they likely are, Perry looks likely a prime candidate to roll-over on others.7

O. Henry coined the term “banana republic” and yes, Don Frank Goodwin is a central character.

Prior perjorous conduct is likely to play a role in questioning by the FBI if Perry is evasive down the line. And if Perry does lie, the admission in 2003 to doctoring of records will come up in sentencing.
