If you thought having Thanksgiving with known white supremacist Nick Fuentes and noted anti-Semite Kanye West was the bottom of the barrel for Trump racism-wise, prepare for a whole lot worse.
Trump’s tax fraud trial in New York is headed to trial on October 2, 2023 — that is a firm date per the judge. The Attorney General of New York is expected to have a hands on role in the case.
Letitia James has not only knotted Trump into a trial date, she has also gotten a financial monitor to preclude Trump and his trio of elder children from syphoning off any assets at The Trump Organization. And the potential cost to Trump, Junior, Eric, and Ivanka is $250,000,000.
To make matters worse for Trump, Letitia James just got reelected so Trump’s copywrited “throw political muscle at a legal problem” is no longer viable.1
Trump’s attempts to throw political muscle at the Georgia election meddling grand jury investigation of Donald Trump (and others) for 2020 election got worse insofar as this woman
has subpoenaed Trump’s GOP detractors and supporters alike regarding Trump’s fake elector scheme and brazen ”find 11,780 votes” phone call on January 2, 2021.2 And while Fulton County prosecutor Fani Willis might ultimately indict Donald Trump, a conviction is not a sure thing — there’s enough Trumpism in Georgia to produce a hung jury.
The concept of a hung jury shouldn’t enthrall Donald Trump. It’s the best he can hope for, if he is indicted in Georgia. The key evidence is an hour long recorded phone call at both ends with counsel on both ends. If convicted, it’s unlikely, but not improbably so, that Governor Brian Kemp would pardon him.
Why?
First, Donald Trump backed Kemp’s opponent in the GOP primary. Given Kemp’s reelection and Trump’s meddling in Georgia GOP politics, there is no political benefit for Kemp to pardon nor does Kemp owe a political debt to Trump..
Second, Trumpism has been costly for the Republican Party of Georgia, so there may not be enough political pressure to motivate Kemp to pardon. Both of the Empire State of the South’s Senate seats flipped from red to blue during Trump’s presidency; and in 2020, Georgia went Democratic in a presidential election for the first time in 28 years. Georgia is trending blue; and but for gerrymandering, it should look like Minnesota legislatively.
Third, a grand jury indictment of Donald Trump is a made ready case for the feds. It makes little sense to try to overturn a guilty verdict in Fulton County for a case that could easily be before a federal grand jury in Washington, D.C. before the ink dries on a pardon.
Which brings us to Donald Trump’s African-American problem.
At some point very soon, the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals is going to upend Judge Aileen Cannon’s special master review of the documents seized from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence on August 8, 2021 after a warrant was issued. With that upending will be the loss of equitable jurisdiction asserted by Cannon.
The classified documents as well as the presidential records were removed by Donald Trump from the White House. Trump called GA Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger about the Georgia election results from the White House. And Trump met with Attorney John Eastman and others at the White House regarding the fake electors scheme and the seditious conspiracy.
The White House address is 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington, D.C. That’s where the jurisdiction to indict and judge Trump lies.
The District of Columbia’s population is 41.4% African-American, 39.6% White, 11.3% Latino, and 4.8% Asian, which is to say to that over 60% of the potential jury pool is populated by people that Trump hates.
Donald Trump endorsed her opponent, Michael Henry in 2022.
