I have been a fan of the actor James Woods for a long time
The Onion Field. Salvador. True Believer. Diggstown. Ghost of Mississippi. Recess: School’s Out1. Be Cool. Any Given Sunday.
And although I was never a fan of Rudy Guiliani, I sat in front of the TV and watched him play the former Mayor of New York2. James Woods was perfectly suited to the role. Rudy Guiliani, in his heyday, was a very smart lawyer and a skilled politician. His political views aside, Woods is exceptionally bright and has a degree of political adeptness that is admirable.
After 9/11 (which occured 3 months before he would leave office), Guiliani went from political heavyweight to aging palooka pretty quickly. Failed political bids and a thin resume (outside of 9/11 itself, he had few accomplishments) dogged him for more than a decade. In addition, Guiliani’s penchant for saying controversial things — a winner in NYC, but a loser just about anywhere else — defined him.
Rudy Guiliani’s long descent into saying stupid stuff became accelerated once he attached himself to Donald Trump, however. Trump’s penchant for dounbling down on faulty facts, inaccurate narratives, and just plain idiocy is renowned, and Rudy Guiliani was always ready to back Trump up to the hilt.
Which makes Guiliani’s jumping in on Trump’s attacks on Cassidy Hutchinson expected. Trump engaged in much of the Right’s Politics of Delegitimization tactics with regard to Ms. Hutchinson — low level staffer, lied about x and y3, and other assorted nonsense. The problem is they are not convincing anyone outside the FoxNews noise machine and right-wing media outlets.
And that’s when Rudy Guiliani stepped in it:
"The January 6 Witch Hunt Cabal has now exceeded even its prior fraudulen[nce]," he said in in an interview. "The last witness was a reckless liar. Contrary to her false testimony she was never present when I asked for a pardon."
A request for a pardon is the kind of evidence that the former U.S, Attorney for the Southern District of New York4 might have called a “slam dunk”. It certainly looks like it from here.
I took my sons to see it — lighten up.

There is no evidence Ms. Hutchinson lied about anything. A portion of her testimony was her recounting things she was told secondhand.
Guiliani was the US Attorney for the SDNY from 1983-1989.
The love affair he's had with alcohol (for how many years, I won't venture to guess) has made this man into a dolt. He resembles Donald J. Trump in his level of intelligence more and more. Rudy probably doesn't even realize he just painted himself into the proverbial corner.
It's sad, so very sad that he aligned himself with a man who is completely unmoored from ethics and morality. They're bookends, now.
