Scott Perry, Bud Macfarlane, and the January 6th Committee Hearings Day One Review
The hearings over the events of January 6, 2021 were in a word rivetting.
Video, texts, and cell phone pictures from the day showed utter chaos, a level of violence poorly understood, and a seditious conspiracy involving President Trump at its center.
Actually, it was more like an attempt to overthrow the government. That became obvious when it was revealed that Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA) and other members of Congress involved in Donald Trump’s poorly executed plan to prevent Joe Biden from being certified as the President-Elect demanded pardons1.
Pardons. As a rule, if you demand pardons before so much as an investigation has been opened; you are guilty as sin.
Congressman Scott Perry is an ultra-conservative former military officer whose invectives for Democrats touches on the worst sort of comparisons2. It’s probably best Perry is no longer in the U.S. Army — one must question his loyalty to the Commander in Chief from 1993 to 2001 when Bill Clinton was President.
Revelations about Perry and his request for a pardon during the January 6th Committee hearings (which he is now denying3) came less than a month after Robert “Bud” Macfarlane passed away4. Macfarlane never sought a pardon, although he received one from President George H.W. Bush, and was remorseful and ashamed about his role in Iran-Contra from Day One.
At the center of Iran-Contra was an attempt to subvert democracy. There was a congressional ban on funding the Contras in Nicaragua.
Why the Democrats continue to frame January 6th as an attack on democracy, an attempted coup, or a bid to overturn the 2020 election is mind-boggling idiocy. It plays into making January 6th less than what it actually was.
It was an attempt to overthrow the government.
