Scott Perry claims he is not a target of FBI investigation
but a bunch of PA GOP lawmakers are subpoenaed after his cell was taken.
The day after U.S. Representative Scott Perry (R-PA) had his cell phone seized pursuant to a search warrant, an indefinite number Pennylvania Republican lawmakers in Harrisburg had subpoenas served on them1.
With one exception, PA State Senate President Pro Tempore Jake Corman (R-Centre County), no one even admitted being served — and it’s not even clear the one Pennsylvania state lawmaker admitting that the FBI was serving subpoenas got one.
In federal investigations, there are targets and persons of interest. While a “person of interest” is an unofficial target, a target is a suspect of some kind.
In a conspiracy, there is the leader, the inner circle, and the people at the end of the spokes. The closer you are to the center of things, the more likely you are the focus of the investigation.
Perry and his attorneys can claim he is not a target, but they did not say the more clear plain-English statement “Scott Perry is not a suspect in the FBI’s investigation.” Or put another way: Just because Perry is not “a” target, it doesn’t mean he’s not “the” target.
Why? Because lying about what the feds actually said is a bad idea and seeking political cover for Perry just got harder.
To make matters worse, the GOP’s gubernatorial candidate, State Senator Doug Mastriano (R-Adams/Cumberland County), is implicated in January 6th and his primarty win was built upon his state legislative connections as much as his Trumpian rhetoric.
And the Pennsylvania “fake electors” was designed and built in the GOP cloakroom in Harrisburg.
