Diplomacy likes pragmatism. Not to give a short-shrift to idealism, but international cooperation is built on contract law — it assumes people will act in their best interest and not for the greater good.
Sometimes, though, when dealing with foes globally means calling them out for who they are, what they have done, and their agenda going forward.
