Trump versus NPR
The optics of the Big Lie gets worse and worse by the day. That’s why a growing (albeit still small) number of Republicans are denying it.
The lack of any evidence to buttress their claims, election audits that did not go their way, and recent revelations that fake Electoral certificates were being proffered to overturn the election results has put Trumpists in an difficult position. Add in the recent of three Florida retirees for casting multiple ballots for Trump and the only word to describe it is unspinnable.
Which brings political realists to Trump and his recent phone interview with National Public Radio’s Steve Inskeep. The interview was a perfect explanantion on why so many Trump projects (e.g. steaks, vodka, airline, magazine) withered post marketing roll-out — Trump never stands behind his products, his only concern is the brand.
The interview devolved into Trump disengaging himself from unforgiving facts about 2020 and cleaving himself to the result he expected1. When Inskeep refused to let Trump get away with that, Trump hung up on him.
The problem with the Big Lie is the same problem the GOP had with Benghazi — the promised “light at the end of the tunnel” was, in fact, the Right digging itself into a very deep hole. And in this version, the Left is demanding the product be proffered not not merely promised. Somehow they have figured out that poor quality steaks don’t fly out of the butcher’s window case.
There is no doubt that Trump loyalists and sycophants within the GOP will continue to buy into anything Trump, but some Republican are no longer interested in the Trump brand.
