Apologies to Hunter S. Thompson for reworking his masterful prose.
Donald Trump, who couldn’t simply allow Corporate Media to do his bidding against President Joe Biden, has been in the midst of an epic meltdown, since Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential race.
Donald Trump’s bullying instincts overtook what was looking like the best Summer of his life.
He beat Joe Biden in a “debate” moderated by two idiots who let him lie without so much as an asterisk, he got an important Supreme Court ruling on presidential immunity, he won his third presidential nomination, survived an attempted assassination, and picked a VP nominee who makes him look both stable and honest.
And if all of the above wasn’t enough, the judge in the Mar-a-Lago classified documents case dismissed it on a sketchy legal theory.
It’s hard to believe that was a mere 15 days ago.
Kamala Harris stepped in. Trump’s choice of JD Vance imploded into to a festival of weirdness.1 Trump’s legal cases heated back up.
Oh, yeah and Trump’s supposed narrative of being grazed by an assassin’s bullet fizzled as his ear looks unmarked in any way.2
The problem with Donald Trump’s bullying instinct is that it produces unintended results.
With Biden as the Democratic nominee; Trump had a guy with a 24/7 job, a very tight and limited schedule, and press corps that loved telling Biden’s age to its audiences.
Couple the above with Biden’s mediocre polling and his fundraising problems and one can see why Nate Silver3 was predicting a Trump win in November.
The key word there is “was”. Kamala Harris’s position as Vice President affords her an unlimited schedule for campaigning. Her ascension as the Democratic nominee has produced over $300 million in campaign funds, thousand of new volunteers, and a plethora of unlikely groups organizing on her behalf.
Haley Voters for Harris (Nikki Haley was a GOP presidential candidate) and “White Dudes for Harris” come to mind.
Then the weird team of Donald Trump, who’s age comes up constantly now, and JD Vance kept finding new ways to put both feet in their respective mouths.
How such a stable genius could not foresee a Black Woman go toe to toe with him without a hint of fear is a real puzzler. I mean, one might think his experiences with Tanya, Fani, or Letitia might have offered a clue. But when your internal narrative constantly contradict reality, it’s likely too steep a learning curve to overcome.
And the prognostication by Nate Silver that Trump was likely to win has officially flipped. Read all about it.4

Silver is a political analyst/election forcaster. He is probably the best one.
